See What’s New at the Washington County Fairgrounds: Recent Upgrades & What’s Coming Next!
The Washington County Agricultural Fairgrounds are more than just the site of our annual celebration – they’re a living part of our community’s history and future. Thanks to generous sponsors, dedicated volunteers, and strong community support the fairgrounds have seen some exciting improvements in recent years – with even more in the works!

As we gear up for the 227th Fair, taking place August 9-16, 2025, here’s a look at what’s been done so far — and what’s still to come.

What’s Been Done: Improvements Prior to the 2024 Fair
In the years leading up to 2024, major strides were made across the fairgrounds to improve visitor experience, preserve history and support exhibitors:

Celebrating History & Tradition

  • 225th Anniversary Mural – Sponsored by EQT and completed in 2023, this mural honors the fair’s long-standing legacy with vibrant artwork.
  • Main Gate Renovations – EQT also helped fund improvements to the main entrance gate, creating a more welcoming and accessible entry point.
  • Memorial Plaza – Installed in 2023, this special space features personalized pavers to honor loved ones and community contributors. Pavers are still available for purchase! Contact the fair office to learn more about this special tribute opportunity!

Facility Upgrades

  • Draft Horse Barn – Renovated and painted in 2023, offering improved space for animals and handlers.
  • Pony Barn – Interior painting and structural repairs were completed, enhancing this popular area.
  • Restroom Renovations – Upgrades across the grounds, including updated facilities for both visitors and exhibitors.
  • Arden Road Perimeter Fence – Installation of a new black chain-link fence added security and visual polish along the edge of the property.
  • Steer Barn Grooming Area – Expanded to provide more space for youth and livestock exhibitors.

Infrastructure & Tech Enhancements

  • Grandstand Sound System – Updated for clearer audio during concerts, shows and special events.
  • Cell on Wheels (COW) – Brought in to improve cell service during peak fair hours.
  • Harness Racing Track Fence – A new split-rail fence was installed for added safety and classic fairgrounds charm.

What’s Coming: Future Projects
While we’ve made great progress, the work continues! Thanks to generous sponsors and ongoing support, here are some of the exciting improvements planned for the near future:

CNX Historic Barn Project
In partnership with CNX, the fair is disassembling and repurposing a historic barn. Materials will be reused to honor the past while creating new infrastructure to serve future generations.

New Equestrian Center & Horse Arena
A state-of-the-art equestrian center is in the works to better accommodate horse shows, clinics and exhibitions. This major addition will strengthen our support for the equine community and expand year-round use of the grounds.

Hall 1 Renovations
Hall 1 is set to be renovated in multiple phases to better serve events and vendors:

  • Phase one includes constructing an addition with fully upgraded restrooms and a new storage room.
  • Subsequent Phases will bring a brand-new roof and the installation of air conditioning. These improvements aim to make Hall 1 more functional, comfortable, and accessible year-round.

Year-Round Impact
While Fair Week draws approximately 64,000 visitors, the Washington County Fairgrounds are truly a year-round community hub. Hosting more than 350 events and rentals annually, the grounds welcome an additional 70,000+ guests throughout the year for livestock shows, auctions, expos, weddings and more. These improvements help support not just one week in August—but an entire calendar of activity that benefits residents, organizations, and local businesses alike.

Why It Matters
Every improvement—whether large or small—helps preserve the fair’s legacy while enhancing the experience for future generations. These upgrades are only possible thanks to the continued involvement of people like you.
